Gardener's Calendar: What to Do in the Garden from July 20–26

Informator Kolomyia has prepared a gardener's calendar for the week.

July 20
Today is a good day to fertilize crops, stake tall-growing plants, keep the plot tidy, and regularly harvest ripe produce. Vegetables and berries can be eaten fresh, frozen, or preserved for winter. However, it's best to postpone any treatments against diseases and pests today.

July 21
A favorable time begins for repeat sowings of fast-growing crops. You can sow dill, spinach, arugula, leaf mustard, green onions, and radishes, as well as plant additional cucumbers for a later harvest. The day is also suitable for fertilizing plants, particularly with potassium-phosphorus fertilizers. After watering, it's a good idea to loosen the soil, refresh the mulch layer, and hill up crops as needed.

July 22
This day is considered favorable for most garden and vegetable-plot tasks. You can continue repeat sowings of greens, tend to vegetable crops, stake tomatoes, cucumbers, and grapevines, and remove excess foliage to improve air circulation. At the same time, it's not recommended to prune plants, divide perennials, or dig up potatoes.

July 23
A favorable day for repeat sowings. You can sow greens, radishes, cucumbers, or other crops that will still have time to mature before autumn. It's also worth loosening the soil between rows, hilling up plants, and refreshing the mulch. This is especially important for tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, and cucumbers, which are now actively fruiting. If the lawn has grown, it can be mowed.

on July 24.
A less favorable period for most sowings. If you do plant anything, it should only be fast-growing greens. Crops with a longer growing season are better left for another time. Instead, you can plant ornamental trees, shrubs, and perennial plants with enclosed root systems.

July 25
The day is suitable for repeat sowings of greens and other fast-growing crops. It's also recommended to focus on caring for already-planted crops: weeding, loosening the soil, and mulching the beds. You can stake tomatoes, guide the runners of cucumbers and zucchini, and remove excess shoots to improve air circulation in the plantings.

July 26
Continue caring for your plants as in previous days. Pay special attention to the orchard. After cherries and sweet cherries finish fruiting, the trees also need care, as they can become susceptible to various diseases.
