Kolomyia Man Abused His Mother for Two Years, Receives Sentence
Kolomyia City-District Court Sentences Man for Domestic Abuse of His Mother The Kolomyia city-district court has found a local resident guilty of systematic psychological domestic violence against his own mother. Under the court's ruling, the man was sentenced to two years of probationary supervision and ordered to complete a three-month offender rehabilitation programme.

The court established that, over an extended period, the man repeatedly insulted his mother, shouted at her, used obscene language, threatened her with physical violence, and even threw her out of her own home. As a result, the woman suffered psychological distress and a decline in her quality of life.
The convicted man is a pensioner with vocational education, is unmarried, and receives a pension of around 8,000 hryvnias a month. He also had a prior criminal record.
He was brought to criminal account after already having been punished twice under administrative law for domestic violence. Despite fines of 170 and 340 hryvnias, he did not stop his unlawful behaviour. Furthermore, on June 24, 2026, the Kolomyia city-district court had already found him guilty of domestic violence and imposed one year of probationary supervision. Since this latest offence was committed before that earlier verdict was handed down, the court determined a final sentence covering the combined criminal offences.
During the proceedings, the defendant fully admitted his guilt and expressed sincere remorse. The court took this into account as a mitigating factor, but found aggravating circumstances in the fact that the crime was committed against an elderly person and while the man was intoxicated.
In addition to the two-year probationary supervision, the man is required to report regularly to the probation authority, notify it of any change of residence, employment or education, refrain from leaving Ukraine without permission, and complete a three-month offender rehabilitation programme.
